I was wandering around at an REI store, trying to find some decent items on super clearance, when I came across a nifty little item for a survival kit. It is the Platypus 1 Liter Water Bottle, a collapsible water bottle. I know these have been out for a while, but I wanted to point them out to anyone who has not seem them yet.

I like to tinker with survival kits. I have been this way since I was a wee tot. Something about the many parts, constant upgradeability, and immense usefulness really appeals to me.
I have carried my current kit in a small camera bag for several years. Before that, it was basically just a pile of stuff in a pocket in my backpack. A big gap in what I carried was that I did not have something durable to boil water or cook food in. Aluminum foil just doesn’t cut it. I also did not really like the case that I used to hold everything.
