I thought those of you that read the blog would like to know that I currently have a 10% off code for Going Gear. The code is june10 and is good through the end of June. There is no minimum order, no item restrictions, and no limit on number of uses. Combine it with the free shipping I give on orders over $49 for even more savings.

Costco was the wonderful Eneloop Power Pack on sale for $19.99 after an instant rebate. You pack tax on the before rebate price ($27.99), so keep that in mind. The pack contains:
- 8 x AA
- 2 x AAA
- 4 x C adapters
- 4 x D apapters
- 4 cell charger
If you are not familiar with Eneloops, they are low self discharge rechargeable batteries, which means that they still have 85% of their charge left after a year of storage. Regular NiMh batteries lose their entire charge in a matter of weeks or months, so these are great batteries for outdoorsy people to have in backpacks and kits. They also can provide a high amperage, which is nice for flashlights and other electronics that can take advantage of the additional power.
For once, this is not a short deal that only last a week or two. The sign at the Costco by me said the price is good through 8/31/09.

I was browsing REI today and noticed that they still have a good bit of nice clothing and gear as a part of their super clearance. I guess the outdoor industry is really hurting this year, because stuff this good would normally be long gone this far after the start of the sale. Take advantage of the sales slump and pick up some sweet gear. Here are a couple of the better ones:
REI Slickrock Pants -14.83
- I have a couple pairs of these and love them. I’ll post a more detailed review soon.

REI Peak UL Carbon Trekking Poles - Pair - 54.83
- I picked up a pair of these at the beginning of the sale and have been really happy with them so far. They weigh something like 12 oz. for the pair. I was initially concerned about how strong the they would be, but I have been abusing them as much as possible, with no hint of slippage or failure.

REI Summit Lake Jacket - $29.83
- I just saw this one, so I don’t know much about the jacket. It looks like a 3 layer jacket, which is crazy at a $30 price point. With REI’s fantastic return policy, this one is surely worth a try.

Just a heads up that REI’s super clearance is active online. Go to REI and REI Outlet and look for sale items ending in .83 to see what they have. Some of the good stuff is gone, but there is still a lot left to grab!

REI sent out some post cards to its customers letting us know that the January Super Clearance is starting early this year, on Friday Jan 9th. If you are not familiar with their super clearance, now is a good time to make that acquaintance with one of the best outdoor sales out there.
The deals will be in store and online, on REI’s main site and in the REI Outlet. Your best bet is to look through the clearance items ending in .83 NOW, add them to your cart in advance, and check out as soon as the clearance starts. You should see the updated prices in your cart when the sale starts, so you will be able to remove items that have not updated their price yet or are not part of the sale. If you want to see the clearance items, use the menu up top, hover over a category, then click on the “sale and clearance” link. Look for items ending in .83. Your cart is the same for REI and REI Outlet, so feel free to jump back and forth between the sites. Place small orders for in store pick up instead of spending a lot of time shopping, because everything good will be gone by the time you are done.

Going Gear is keeping me busy with orders these days, mostly thanks to forums I post on. I wanted to do something to give back, so how about 20% off on half the items on the site?
What’s included in the sale:
Tent Stakes
Carabiners
Waterproof Capsules
Bottle Lighters
Whistles

Add these three sets to your cart:
Tinker with free Classic
Classic 3 pack
One Handed Trekker with free Classic
$10 is automatically subtracted in your cart, making it $44.39. Other combinations can be made, but this one is great if you are looking for small Christmas gifts and maybe a nice knife or two for yourself. Prices usually constantly fluctuate a few cents, so you might get something slightly different.

Altrec has a nice sale going on at the moment, with some stuff up to 75% off after the combined savings. Add the 40% off coupon (Save40now) and you have some sweet deals.

REI does its super clearance twice a year, every February and August. They will take an additional 50% off on items that have prices ending in .83, so the savings can be crazy sometimes. Expect minimum discounts off retail to be 60% on super clearance items, usually more.
The store sale starts on Friday, and runs for 10 days. The vast majority of the items will be clearanced the first day, but they will add items throughout the week, so additional visits can be worth the drive sometimes. If you want the really good stuff, be there when the store opens on the first day and go straight to what you really want. Expect to see assholes with 15 sleeping bags being dragged behind them. Feel free to kick these guys in the nuts, unless it is me, in which case you should help me carry the bags.
Online is a completely different matter. Sometimes it starts on Friday, sometimes it starts a day or two earlier. Expect things to sell out fast. REI does not update its inventory real time, so sometimes you still might have items that are out of stock. Even if you have stuff on your order you end up not wanting, you can always call and cancel after you place the order or just return it in store.
If you want me to be your best friend ever, and more importantly keep my poor ass doing giveaways and passarounds, use these links to shop and add things to your cart:
